Workplace Mediation Essentials for HR Teams
Communication, Conflict & Dispute Resolution Faculty
Course reference: EAC-CC-S4-WME

Course Details
HR professionals are often the first people asked to respond when workplace relationships deteriorate. This course introduces mediation-informed principles that can help HR teams assess conflict, support early intervention and determine when formal mediation may be appropriate. It distinguishes mediation from investigation, grievance management, performance management and other organisational processes.
Participants explore impartiality, confidentiality, voluntary participation, listening, reframing, issue identification and option generation. Practical scenarios demonstrate how mediation-informed techniques can support early conversations without requiring HR professionals to assume the role of an independent mediator. The course also considers referral, suitability and situations in which mediation may not be appropriate.
Outcomes
• Recognise workplace situations that may be suitable for mediation or mediation-informed intervention.
• Apply selected listening, reframing and issue-separation techniques appropriately.
• Make better-informed decisions about referral, escalation and the boundaries of HR intervention.
