Managing Workplace Conflict Before It Becomes Formal
Communication, Conflict & Dispute Resolution Faculty
Course reference: EAC-CC-S4-MWC

Course Details
Many formal workplace disputes begin as smaller disagreements that remain unresolved or are handled inconsistently. This practical course helps managers and HR professionals recognise emerging conflict and intervene before positions become entrenched. It examines behavioural warning signs, communication breakdown, competing expectations and the organisational conditions that can intensify disagreement.
Participants learn how to assess an emerging issue, hold early conversations and distinguish between matters that can be addressed informally and those requiring formal procedures. The course introduces practical de-escalation and problem-solving approaches while maintaining fairness and appropriate documentation. The objective is not to avoid formal processes where they are necessary, but to prevent avoidable escalation where constructive early intervention remains possible.
Outcomes
• Assess whether informal intervention is appropriate in a particular situation.
• Conduct structured early-intervention conversations.
• Identify proportionate next steps while maintaining appropriate records and organisational boundaries.
